Cloth, fabric, material, yard goods, call it what you will, you'll
never think of it the same again. Merging antique fabrics with newer
natural and synthetic fibers having all the colors of nature's palette
creates a depth of expression not found elsewhere.
The artists of Textile Workshop, Judy Topkis and twin sisters Barbara
Herak and Grace Henshaw, gave up their canvases and easels and chose
cloth as their preferred method of expression. Using this mode of artistic
endeavor, the three women have found themselves in the folds of their
medium where the medium is most assuredly the message.
After years of studying and executing paintings, print making, screen
printing, quilting and sewing, the artists' talents have now converged
to produce truly unique and exquisite fabrics.
Their studio is located in the Norristown Arts Building,
about l5 miles west of Philadelphia, and three miles north of King of
Prussia. They are usually busy filling yardage
orders for the interior designer, sewer and quilter, along with wall
art that is commissioned by art consultants and architects. Home
accessories are also available, and the sewer can locate unusual
patterns as well as fabric scrap bags and
packs that the quilter finds attractive, too.
Many ideas for the ambitious sewer!! Fabulous examples of clothing ,
scarves, neckties and handbags can be found in the studio's showroom
and now, on-line.
